My friends COSMETICS had one if their songs featured in Donatella Versace and Christopher Kane’s Versus – Spring Summer 2011 show. Way to go kids!
One of my current Fashion inspirations are the rent boys in Gus Van Sant’s my own Private Idaho. Some of my favorite looks from the film, displayed below:
Harmony Korine directed a short film for Proenza Schouler’s F/W 2010 line, called “Act Da Fool”. Watch it here.
Ashik Kerib (1988): Directed by Soviet-Armenian filmmaker Sergei Parajanov based on the short story of the same name by Mikhail Lermontov. Ashik Kerib is Truly a film of visual delights. Not to forget the costumes are amazing.
Notebook on Cities and Clothes is a documentary film about Yohji Yamamoto directed by Wim Wenders.
“Calvin Black was a folk artist who lived in California’s Mojave Desert and created more than 80 life-size female dolls, each with its own personality, function, and costume.
Possum Trot is part of the “Visions of Paradise” series on contemporary folk artists directed and produced by Irving Saraf and Allie Light.”
Filmed in 1977
Tokyo Pop is one of my favorite movies of my teen hood. The story is about a new-wave-comme-punk bleached blond Wendy, who moves to Tokyo to try to make it as a “rock star”. She then falls in love with a Japanese rocker boy and they become pop stars. There are some great fashions (Wendy’s outfits pretty much rule) and scenery of Tokyo, to top it off X-japan has a cameo. Overall its a fun movie and feeds my obsession with 1980s Japan.
I can’t find a DVD copy of this movie or a torrent. If you have any information how to get a hold, please pass it along. I’d even love a VHS copy. Thus, is why there are no screen shots in this post.
Here are some great images from Hausu :
